Pokémon Cards in India: Why We All Love Pikachu but Rarely Own One

Pokémon holds a special place in the hearts of millions of Indians.
We grew up loving Pikachu — cheering for Ash, memorising Pokémon names, and imagining what it would be like to be part of that world. Pokémon wasn’t just a cartoon or a game; it was a feeling tied to childhood, imagination, and nostalgia.

And yet, despite that deep love, most Pokémon fans in India have never owned a real Pokémon card.
Authentic Pokémon trading cards in India have always been rare, difficult to find, or surrounded by confusion. So how did a franchise we love so deeply never turn into a true collecting culture here?
To understand that, we need to look at how Pokémon evolved globally — and why India was left out of the Pokémon Trading Card Game experience.
Pokémon’s popularity in India grew primarily through television anime, video games, and later mobile gaming. For many fans, Pokémon GO became the bridge back to Pokémon as adults. It was free, easy to access, and entirely digital, making it the most widespread Pokémon experience in the country.
While Pokémon GO reintroduced Pokémon to millions, it also reinforced a screen-only relationship with the franchise. Globally, however, Pokémon exists beyond screens. It is collected.
In countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Thailand, Pokémon thrives as a full trading card culture. Pokémon Trading Card Game products are widely available through official retailers and local game stores. Booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, organised leagues, tournaments, and a strong collector ecosystem are all part of everyday Pokémon life.

For millions of fans worldwide, Pokémon cards are not a novelty. They are a hobby, a competitive game, and a long-term collectible. India, however, never officially received this ecosystem.
The absence of Pokémon trading cards in India has nothing to do with lack of interest. It comes down to access and infrastructure. There has never been an official Pokémon Company distributor in the country, nor authorised wholesalers, organised league support, or widespread education around authentic Pokémon cards.
As a result, many Indian fans were exposed only to unofficial or counterfeit cards, low-quality replicas, or sellers who lacked transparency. Over time, this created confusion and hesitation around Pokémon cards as a legitimate hobby.
Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG may share the same characters, but the experience is entirely different. Pokémon GO is digital and fleeting. Pokémon TCG is physical, tangible, and deeply personal. Trading cards introduce real ownership, detailed artwork, meaningful rarity, and the joy of collecting something that exists beyond a screen.
Opening a real Pokémon booster pack, pulling a rare card, and adding it to a collection is an experience that global fans remember for years. It is a moment of surprise, excitement, and connection that most Indian fans never had the opportunity to experience.
Holding a Pokémon card feels different from seeing Pokémon on a screen. Collectors appreciate the quality of the card, the artwork, the set details, and the history behind each Pokémon. Owning Pokémon cards transforms nostalgia into something tangible — something you can keep, display, trade, and grow over time.
This missing experience is exactly why Pokerealm exists.
Like many Indian fans, our love for Pokémon began in childhood. As we grew older, we realised something strange. India loved Pokémon deeply, yet had no reliable way to buy genuine Pokémon Trading Card Game products.
Pokerealm was created to change that.
We focus exclusively on authentic Pokémon TCG products, responsibly imported from established international markets such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Thailand. Our approach is rooted in transparency, education, and respect for Pokémon as a global collecting culture.
Pokerealm is not just an online store. Our goal is to educate first-time Pokémon TCG collectors in India, build trust around authenticity, help fans avoid fake or unofficial products, and introduce India to the Pokémon trading card culture the rest of the world has enjoyed for decades.
Whether you are rediscovering Pokémon from your childhood or exploring Pokémon cards for the first time, Pokerealm is designed to support that journey.
India is ready for Pokémon trading cards. The fandom already exists. The nostalgia is real. The collector community is growing. What was missing was access, authenticity, and education.
Pokerealm is here to provide all three.
Welcome to Pokerealm — where India’s love for Pokémon finally becomes something you can hold.
